MARCH 22nd – GEOMETRIC DRAWING – DUE MARCH 29th

This week you are to become familiar with the art of Romare Bearden, an honored modern artist who celebrated African American culture. Google Romare Bearden and read about his life, then go to IMAGES to study the wealth of collages he created . His collage work involves combining bits and pieces of colored and printed papers to create abstract works of art that tell stories of African American life and culture. He is also considered a cubist, meaning he emphasizes geometric shapes as he constructs his compositions.
Pick one of Bearden’s complex collages to interpret as a DRAWING, giving emphasis to the geometric shapes you discover in the composition. Photograph your drawing and email to cgrant@coppin.edu.
DUE DATE: MARCH 29th. All assignments received after the due date will lose points equal to a letter grade for each week late. Example: B work (8 points) received 1 week late becomes a C (7 points); B work received 2 weeks late becomes a D (6 points) etc.
